Zeon: TO be fair the number of car crash fatalities and injuries with less comms/power poles around would improve

Considering 99% of poles also have street lighting on them the only way poles would be eliminated would be to eliminate street lights.

richms: At work they replaced all the footpaths with new concrete (and managed to rip up the phone cable too) - there is new green ducting going in to the corner of buildings, which was put in by chorus so I assume is for fiber.

Its not on year 2 or 3 maps, but does the ducts going in with other work bump the install dates up? Desperatly need it at work.

It might not bump the install dates up, but often utility companies will coordinate with councils to install services like power/phone/water when the council has (as in this case) dug up the road to replace footpaths. This way there is less disruption and the area only needs to be dug up once.

Or to install stand alone street light poles that bad drivers can have fun crashing into. On the way home last night, I saw someone had smashed over a set of traffic lights. Very clever!

Yeah but hitting a street light pole doesn't take out the whole area as power poles do..

And there are much more lightly constructed, designed to collapse when hit, unlike a hardwood or concrete power pole.
