We had our UFB installed last week. The fibre was brought overhead to our house and from there was along the edge of the eve out to the corner of the house. What concerns me is that to bring from the edge of the eve to the wall they have cable-tied it to the return pipe that connects the guttering to the downpipe. Once it hits the house wall they have run it inside a thin pvc pipe down to the external Chorus box. It seems slightly dodgy having fibre tied to our plastic guttering. I went out on Saturday and got some downpipe brackets to make sure the piping was as secure as possible as it blows about a bit in the wind.

Does this seem like a dodgy install to you guys? I can get pics later if it isn't clear.

Cheers

At Chorus we have looked at this installation and offer the following advice;

Clipping the cable under the eaves is to Chorus standard.  However - bringing the cable around the front of the downpipe is not to Chorus standard.

Installing the cable down behind a downpipe is good practice. However, zip tying the cable to a down pipe is not to standard, and the technician should return to correct this sub-standard install.

There is also no requirement to install a conduit down the side of the house. The cable could have been secured to the house with P Clips unobtrusively  behind the downpipe .

Cabling exiting the ETP is internal rated only, and should not be exposed to the elements. Management of the internal cable (flexi on the left) is poor, not following good working practice.

The solution that we expect to see installed in a case such as this is indicated on the photo above.

If the OP could DM me their contact details I will arrange to get this job inspected and remedial work done to correct it to the standards we set out with our installation partners.

regards
^GL
