Hi,

I've looked quite hard and couldn't find any discussion on the issue. I'm thinking of moving to VDSL2, mostly for my uploads. (Fibre is by July 2016.) While I haven't quite decided, I may move to (or stay with) one of the providers providing free installation with a contract. (I don't really think I need it but I guess because of too many people who thought they didn't but did, it seems most no longer make it optional.) However this is a fairly old house with old wiring. It doesn't have an ETP. The demark point is the first junction box in the premises.* The cable itself comes up in ducting under the house.

Anyway, so I'm wondering what with the standard Chorus install provided by the ISPs for "free". I know normally they're supposed to install a master splitter at the ETP, and then run Cat5e minimum to a designed RJ45 port they install in the premises (unless there's already Cat5). What are the standards in a case like mine? Do they route the cable outside and install an ETP then do a normal install? Do they just install a master splitter under the house and route Cat5e from it to the designed jackpoint? Most importantly, do they say my install is too unstandard and I have to pay more? Do I have any say in what they do in this regard?

in my case i didn't have an ETP and chorus installed one and then ran the cables from that to the jackpoints (master filter was put inside the ETP, and i didnt pay a CENT but this might not be the norm for everyone.

You no longer pay separately for master filter installs, the cost is incorporated into the VDSL2 pricing with all providers except for Bigpipe who don't offer it as standard.

There isn't really a standard install, it's going to depend where you want your modem. Typically speaking however this would be done at the first jackpoint.
