Im about to move into a new house on a new subdivision.  The section has fibre pre installed which on being told this i thought - great!

The fibre itself is installed by chorus.

I asked my existing ISP to set me up with a fibre modem for my new property, a new modem duly arrived.  When the technicians went out to set the modem and install up they couldn't do it.  I was told that they didn't have the correct handshake info to get onto the chorus network.

Spoke to another ISP (the one that offers global mode) and they too told me they could offer me a service, sent me a modem and all was looking good.  However, was told that their engineers too didn't have the correct handshake abilities to log onto the chorus network.

Then the frustration dug in - and i did some research.  Seems that chorus have the contract to lay new sections fibre and Ultra Fast Fibre have got the contract to install everywhere else.  When UFF install they open the service up to lots of ISP, however chorus have only opened their network up to Trust Power who are not the most competitive with their pricing and don't offer you goodies like global mode or free national calls.

The house has got fibre but it seems i have the choice of only 1 ISP and to be quite honest - I'm not a happy bunny!

Just wanted to vent really - if anyone else has experienced this or got any advice, I'd love to hear I'm not the only one....!

I don't want no sugar in it - thank you very much

Hi guys,

Just to clarify WXC does provide UFB in Tauranga. Both Chorus and UFF. :D
