We moved into a new (to us) house just before Christmas, signed up to Vodafone for landline and broadband.
I've been trying to get caller display turned on (as we've become accustomed to it over the past decade or so)
Yesterday though I was told "this feature is not available at your switch in the exchange"

Is this normal? I would have thought something so simple would be available everywhere!
We are in Rangiuru (near Te Puke) - so I guess its a downside to moving to the country.

Is this common?

NEAX 61 Kai (61K and 61S) exchanges don't support most smart phone services incl CallerID. These are the older NEAX exchanges, all the newer models do support it.

There is no link between ADSL2+ and CallerID - except for the fact many exchanges and cabinets now support Baseband IP which is now being deployed by some ISPs. This offers PSTN emulation from a VoIP linecard in the ISAM, meaning you're delivered a phone service over POTS, but it's VoIP from the cabinet or exchange.
