The internet felt a bit quicker than normal today, so did a quick speedtest:

That was over wifi, and previously even over a wired connection was never getting over 29/9.5:

Has there been a recent change to over-provision the 30/10 plan?

I'm on Spark UFB in Auckland.

You've probably been moved from the Bitstream 2 to the Bitstream 2a profile from Chorus (assuming you're on Chorus). And since you're with Spark it probably happened when you moved to a Voice over Fibre line??

The Layer 2 speeds of the 30/10 plan is actually 33/11. So that should give you a Layer 3 speed of 30/10.

Since there were a number of complaints about why customers on 30/10 couldn't get an actual 30/10 speed test. Then the whole Layer 2 vs Layer 3 conversation comes in an 99.99% of customers eyes glaze over.

If you order 30/10 you get 33/11 Layer 2
100/20 you get 110/22
100/100 you get 110/115
200/20 you get 217/22
200/200 you  get 217/230

It's a long story about why the upstream is higher... But that is what it is.

The 100/50 plan is a Bitstream 2 plan, which isn't actively offered by many ISPs since it's more expensive than the BS2a plan. Hence why that speed seemed to disappear from most ISPs when the 100/20 came out.

I'm sure there is a document on CFH talking all about Bitstream 2 vs Bitstream 2a plans somewhere.
