Howdy

My folks live in Raglan and if possible I want to try and help them out with their poor broadband situation. They have an ADSL connection which gets a reasonable 12Mbps down but an abysmal 0.5Mbps up which makes it difficult for us to even Skype successfully. When they had their connection installed 4+ years ago they were told that the nearest cabinet (850 meters away by road) was full and they were put on another cabinet (2.2km away by road).

Is there any process, waitlist, etc. for them to switch to the nearer cabinet (and hopefully get an improved up speed)?

simply no

the cable runs from their place to 1 cabinet, if you were to move to another cabinet you would have to relay x number of meters of new cable at a huge cost, and its not likely to ever happen

why not look into RBI wireless? offers much faster upload and download speeds. cost wise per month its about the same, but there may be a bit more of an outlay on equipment depending on location and signal strength
