Anyone still doing this?  Like that Ihug, Clear.net, Paradise etc .... I still have a Clear.Net address which has been my private email email for all this time.  Who knows when they decide to withdraw it.  I have moved my online services email address to Gmail now.

Cheers ..

I still use @xtra.co.nz, since it looks professional-ish on job applications

firstname@lastname.co.nz looks a lot more professional =)

When ever I see @xtra I think lack of knowledge, doesn't care where the email comes from, doesn't care how it works. Got it for free.

Sorry - that's what an xtra address looks like to me as well.
You could add 'and can't work out how to get a Gmail account'.

Sure, I could make a new account that looks more professional but then I'd need to change a heap of website email addresses to my new one

You do realize you can set multiple gmail accounts up on one phone eh?

The problem with a gmail address is that if Google ever do anything unpopular or controversial that affects their users' privacy or the quality of service then you have no comeback because you're not paying for the service.

I have a gmail account that I use as a throwaway address for when I'm filling out surveys or competitions so that I can keep my main address free of marketing rubbish. My main address is my own domain name, forwarding to whatever email service provider I happen to want to use at the time.
