So my brother is connected now, Voyager 100mbps plan on fibre.

It kind of sucks.

Ping 26  Download 98.

Mine is ping 2 ms, download 103.

This is on his wired desktop. Using laptop or ipad on wifi it's even worse, he got 22 mbps and ping about the same.

Any suggestions?  Modem is in the middle of house - equal distance from his room and lounge, where he uses devices, so not really an idea to move it.

Perhaps his settings on the modem, using the Voyager supplied one.

OK so he's paying for a 100mbs plan and he downloads at 98?

Sounds like he's getting what he paid for.

Much better than my asdl2 plan which never got more than 50% of what the Telco said I could get...

Wi-Fi speed isn't a fibre issue if the direct lan speed is good

Basically there is nothing wrong.

Latency would be explained by using an off-net speedtest server that doesn't peer locally - ie if they are in Napier for example and picking Napier as the server and Voyager don't peer in Napier with them (I'd be surprised if anybody peers in Napier) then traffic will go to Auckland and back which explains the latency.

As for speeds over WiFi nothing is guaranteed and there are literally a million reasons why speeds can vary ranging from poor signal strength meaning low MCS rates to devices connected with poor signal strength bogging down the AP and causing overall degradation of WiFi performance for all devices connected to the AP.
