We've been on the Maxnet unlimited plan for about 6 months now, and until now it's been fine.  But this week during the evenings the bandwidth has dropped from about 14 Mbps to 2 Mbps, and then is back to normal in the morning.

I tried to call their support this morning, but gave up after 15 mins on hold and constantly being told I was first in the queue.

What is going on at Maxnet???  This is more than a little worrying given the recent takeover by Vocus.

I got through to tech support this morning and they did a port reset.  At 11:45 on a Saturday morning download is about 11 Mbps but ping is 70 ms!  Obviously still not right.

And why does SpeedTest think that we're in the Marlborough Sounds when we live in Auckland???

w2krules: And why does SpeedTest think that we're in the Marlborough Sounds when we live in Auckland???

Because Speedtest uses a database that maps IP addresses to ISPs. Sometimes they use the ISP town/city as the reference. It's not meant to be an exact science with GPS accuracy.

Point taken, but Maxnet are based in Auckland so you'd expect that to be the IP address default.

Everything seems back to normal now.  Thanks Maxnet.

BTW their retail arm is still branded Maxnet, not Vocus.
