Hi all and particularly anyone form Telecom/Chorus who can offer meaningful support.

Here is Whenuapai, North West Auckland, we had a tornado through at start of December causing some quite serious damage and sadly to one of our trusty roadside DSLAM's (Cabinet WEI-U).  A tree crushed the left side leaving a gap which initially was covered with a tarpaulin which has long since gone.  It has left the cabinet with a gaping hole that will allow the rain in with out first big period of rain. It has also started to fill up with various items "posted" by some passers by including pine cones and I would guess other items.  All rather dangerous as it is the power distribution on the smashed side.

Telecom(Manilla Call Centre) was and has been, shall we say, less than helpful and it appears I am unable or not allowed to talk to Chorus direct.

At the time of the tornado when Chorus contractors where in the area off the record we were told there were no spare cabinets or panels available which seems a bit sad and now 2 months later it seems the damage has been forgotten   That is until the rain comes and we all loose our phone and ADSL at which point there will be a lot more to replace, a potential fire and lots of disgruntled customers.

If anyone from Telecom (who is in Auckland and can comprehend the issue) or anyone from Chorus is hanging around this forum can they please contact me to let the community know what is happening before the rain starts or a kid sticks their fingers inside and electrocutes themselves.

Or can anyone else advise the best way to get fault and dangerous issues resolved that does not involve the impermeable barrier that Telecom customer service is.

Cheers

Andy

I've also forwarded this link onto someone in Chorus who can deal with it.

Thanks guys for the quick responses and I'm sorry but you would not be any good at running customer service call centre:)  Thank god for this forum.

Many thanks plambrechtsen for passing it on to your contact.

And thanks guys for the laugh, I would have tried turning the DSLAM off and on again but I'm not sure that's a solution in this particular case.

Cheers Guys.

Interesting and slightly OT. I don't have an option to quote OP. Why would this be so?

Thanks Johnr, but I was referred back to Telecom by Chorus when I rang a month or so back, told I had to refer to my service provider.  It seemed to be a loop designed to wear my down...it worked :)

If it is a hazard then you could ring your local council and they may apply pressure on Chorus to at least secure the site.

<ot>I've noticed that before; and personally think it's a little odd.  Any reason why we shouldn't be able to quote what we're replying to under all conditions?</ot>

It's a deliberate design decision. I personally think it's wrong.

Just cut and paste the bit you want to highlight, and put quote tags around it.

For those interested in the quote discussion, here's the original discussion from last year.
