Hey guys

I'm currently on ADSL2 using a Vigor 120 (in half-bridge mode for IPv6 shizzle) and a Mikrotik. Can anyone recommend a VDSL modem I can use (in full-bridge mode, from what I read) with the Mikrotik?

The ZyXEL P870H-51a looks cheapish (and excludes wifi which I don't need) but I'm not sure how decent it is. OTOH the FRITZBox 7390 I've seen in other posts as the go-to modem for VDSL.

Also one other query, I live not far from the Courtenay Place Exchange in Wellington (which Google says is 25-27 Cambridge Tce), is it likely I connect straight to the exchange and not via a cabinet - is that how it works for the first 1-2kms?

Another option coming soon I believe is the new Draytek Vigor 130. I believe it also does full bridge with VLAN 10 tag; i.e. the 130 will sort the VLAN10 (if needed), so you only need untagged PPPoE on your router :)

We have sold dozens of Zyxel and they are largely extremely reliable and really good.

Ooh, so a VDSL replacement for the trusty 120 then? If it's as good as the 120 is/was then I'll be definitely grabbing one of those. Thanks for the heads up, I shall keep my eyes peeled!

In my case the Zyxel was 6Mbit faster than the brand the tech had with him (cant recall) and 4Mbit faster than the Fritz (can't recall the model specifically)

If he was anything like the tech that I saw, they carry around the stock standard Telecom/Technicolor/Thomson units, which are Broadcom based and seem to be ok.

And how well did the Genius sync? (hehe)
Maybe that's a hint Orcon will launch VDSL with a Fritzbox too :)

I personally have a love-hate relationship with zyxel, on one I've spent too many evenings dealing with unhappy hotel/motel guests on G-4100s, but their ES/GS series switches work reasonably well for the price, and have had a lot of success with the P-660HN-T1A for ADSL2+, in terms of reliability and sync speeds (but unfortunately doesn't have PPPoA to PPPoE relay)

I'm personally using the TG589vn V2 that telecom gave me, in bridge mode with my RouterOS firewall, and haven't had any problems.

Getting slightly OT but I'd expect the P660 to do native VLAN10 EUBA since it has VLAN support, so there would be no need for any PPPoA/PPPoE relay as you could set it straight into bridge mode if required (however your ISP would need to support the EUBA CVID not just the legacy CVID. I must have a play one day..
