Hi guys,

About 2 months ago they layed underground pipes down the road where my parents live (Victoria road, New plymouth), I assumed this was for underground UFB rollout, however i see they also have installed overhead cables, and attached to a power pole i see one of those black UFB cylinders (sorry no pics).

I'm just wondering what's gone on here?

Looks like New Plymouth is Ultrafast's territory. The map on the UFF website says ...

Thanks for the reply but what I was wanting to know, simply because i'm curious, is why they installed the underground piping as well as the overhead fibre lines?

With absolutely no knowledge of the area one would assume it's a simple case of an underground network but with overhead drops for the leadin. This is an extremely common scenario.

The main ducting is trenched to the pole with the current box pillar on it. On that pole it then goes overhead to the houses.
It is exactly how the copper network is built. My argument to this Is they are trenching to the poles so why not juat trench to the properties.

$$$, you can probably have an underground 'drop' if you pay or it,
The taxpayers contribution will only likely fund you a connection to the current equivalent installation standard

In my experience Ultrafast's website is rather accurate and always remember that just because there is fibre in the ground doesn't mean it is ready for service or as UFF call it "service ready". Sounds odd because they normally want to complete the whole road within a month. Were the pipes red? I have seen both underground and overhead installed in the same street.
