Gidday. Chorus came and installed me, Broadband is on, I have reconfigured (login & password only) this Telecom Branded Modem, but no internet. Had a quick chat with support yesterday, mentioned some value should be set to 10 (something Lan) but can't find it.
Any ideas from the Geeks? 5 days without internet, it's killing me! :)

V-LAN is 10. Or Virtual LAN identifier.

Model number would be the most helpful thing to include BTW

Pace V5542.
Can't find any V-LAN setting anywhere.

You just need to go in to the WAN settings and look under the DSL interface setting. It will have it all there.
Look for options like VPI, VCI, 802.1Q..

VPI and VCI will be 0 and 110 respectively. the 802.1Q tag will be 10. This might also be shown as just simply 'VLAN ID' or something similar.

Then just the PPP details 2Talk have supplied you. Oh and leave the 'service name' field empty if there is one.

Settings for NZ vdsl are already baked in - you should just need to change the user name and password.

BTW ditch the pace and get something decent.

Thanks, but no joy still. can't find anywhere a VLAN tag or anything where a 10 parameter is applicable. How do I post a screenshot as a pic here? seems like a reasonable Modem, good price compared to other wifi enabled. 2 talk account shows me on a billing cycle (connected?) but the help guy yesterday wasn't sure and suggested I try today. I changed VCI from 100 to 110. Damnit, broadband speed looks awesome, but no internet. :(

how did you speedtest.... without internet...

"good price" for a vdsl modem, corners need to be cut to get to that "good price"

Speed test is the modem giving me a line speed, don't know how that works. Although I'm not a Telecom fan I don't imagine they supply a business modem without it being a fairly good quality - I got it unused from TradeMe (a good trader too) for $240 or something like that. I don't imagine the modem is the problem, it has some other features I like too, but will use them once I get online. (well I'm obviously online now with my 2degrees vodem)

yes, ok, thats modem stats.

so you have dsl synchronization, but no PPP by the looks of it.


on antother note, for a 13db line, thats a pretty nice sync.

Are you sure - as in 100% that your username and password are correct?

The Pace is pre configured for vlan injection on the wan side.

Maybe try resetting to factory defaults then put in the user/pwd details.

What this is telling us is that you've got DSL active on your line but your provider may not have provisioned your connection in their system or they've given you a different user/pwd than the one you're using.

the v5542 does not allow you to modify vlan settings. 

Would have been useful for testing my snap vdsl sometime back.

isp should be about to check logs, and confirm if your PPP authentication is simply failing or if they are even seeing the connection, from there the problem can be located.
