We are moving houses with my missus in three weeks time so I am in a hunt for a good ISP. Sadly the house is not in UFB ready area so I will need to look into VDSL options for the next 1-2 years.

Our requirements:
-ISP that is not using transparent proxy so we can use unblock-us for Netflix, BBC etc.
-enough data (200gb - 500gb at least) or uncapped but no traffic management
-term no longer than 12 months
-free install of master splitter
-free modem (or competitive monthly cost that would make up for the initial cost over the 12 months)
-only on work cell phones so cannot sign up for any of the combo packages for further discounts, naked from Telecom etc.

Also the house is quite far from the exchange so we have to be able to switch back to ADSL2+ if the line is not suitable for VDSL at no cost, but this should be standard, right?

What do you reckon would be the best deal for us?

If a provider without free modem, what would be the best (reasonable priced) modem/router (all in one device, no need for gigabit ethernet or ac wireless)?

The netcomm I got to replace my flakey fritz has been ok for quite a while so far. Seems to have some funky bridging smarts in it so I am not using its switch or wifi, just as a VDSL router.

I would suggest snap as a prefered ISP

my vote would be for snap. fits all your requirements.

they may not be the cheapest datawise, but you get what you pay for out of them.

free offpeak could be handy if your looking to do a big download too.

Your suggesting your house is quite far up front. Want to pm me and I can run a pre qualification on your line.

Snap probably best for your needs, however bear in mind that even with 12 month contract you don't get free modem, you only get the modem fre on a 24 month contract.

If you want lots of data, you are probably looking at $110 per month for the 300GB naked plan on snap. 12 month contract, free splitter, not free modem. Includes unlimited nights (1am to 7am). You can buy a vdsl modem from telecom for $150.

Orcon do vdsl for the same price on 12 month contract with no datacap and comes with free splitter and free modem rental (you never own it,but you keep it for the life of your contract), so that might be better option. They say there is no shaping, but I don't use it personally so can't say.

Have you checked if the house already has a splitter? Bit of a long shot, but if the previous occupants had vdsl then it would have a splitter already. If it's already got one, then go for bigpipe. $99 unlimited vdsl, no shaping. You don't get free splitter, but if you already have one then that's fine. BYO modem.
