I have hunted around ... PB Tech only have 2 different models in stock. Both are D-Link. I have emailed Ascent as the search function didn't provide any results. Are there any routers and stores that you recommend?

Not too expensive, parent's place rented out for the tenants.

Still on the lookout. Pulled out of Spark. Were going to go with My Republic, still might, depends if the contract after is another 9 or 12 months on top of the 3 months to get the free modem. But the address didn't work on their webpage but every other ISP say it is UFB ready so they have to look into that for us. Then we thought about Big Pipe and the GrabOne offer we get the 2nd month free as well but we have to provide our own modem. The month is lesser at $79 instead of $99. They also don't need a local number.

Is that ASUS N56U as good it it says - international Cnet winner .....

Why not simply go with whatever your ISP is going to provide and more importantly provide support for?

As for MyRepublic, you could go with any device you want, even a $30 TP-Link is going to work since they use untagged UNI ports which means you don't get the usual EIR + CIR component for your speed and have a 100% EIR.

I've been using the Netcomm NF4V for a while, first on VDSL but I plan to use it for the UFB too and ditch the Spark router. It has 4x gigabit ports, which is much better than most things in the price range. Never really had a problem with it, good range on the WiFi, etc. Settings are a bit weird compared to the others. You really need to know what you're doing with them. It will probably also need a firmware update straight away to get rid of an annoying periodic disconnect issue. But a firmware update does resolve that.

Orcon supply it for their VDSL/UFB connections and some Aussie ISPs also supply it for the same.

Main reason I chose it was because my Snap supplied Fritzbox borked and it was cheap enough (I think $160 from PBTech) to be going on with. But it turned out to be much better than the Fritzbox, so I never sent it back to Snap for testing and just used the netcomm instead.

Something that isn't gutless if you want to go on a plan 100Mbps or above. Low end and poor quality models really start bottlenecking beyond this, especially if you put them under high connection count load.

This seems like a plausible course of action:

1) Sign up for Myrepublic. Pay the $50 'bond' for the router.

2) towards the end of the three months 'trial', switch to Bigpipe to get the first month free with them, but don't return the router to Myrepublic. (just forfeit the $50 bond instead). Make sure you do this before it rolls into the contract though. The Bigpipe plans are better value anyway if you already have a router (which you will)

Bingo, you just scored yourself 4 months free broadband and, what seems like, a decent router for only $50, and you will be on no contract with Bigpipe so if a better offer comes out you have the freedom to switch at a later date.

Haha but sorry to spoil it. The Big Pipe first month free is only up to the end of this month October. ;-)

Oh the $50 bond is for a non returned router or is that just b/c you didn't sign a contract. Not that it is important.

Isn't that just what the bond is for? You keep the router, you forfeit the bond. But they can't charge you any more, can they?

Regardless of whether they will or not and the legality of either, the suggestion still seems a little dishonest, at least IMHO.

yep. And so is accessing Netflix from NZ, something we don't seem to have a problem with (and nor do I)

I would also recommend the Netcomm NF4V myself but am currently having issues with my unit. It's in the hands of PB Tech now. Will keep you posted.

Harvey Norman selling D-Link DSL-2770L one for $68. $63 with welcome5.

It looks like it supports vlan tagging. So this should be ok for UFB??

We finally chosen - MyRepublic for that place. Free modem etc .. $74 per month each every month after the 3 months free are accounted for. 100Mbps speed not bad. After that can swap out to another.
