I have just moved in to a rural block in Poraiti near Napier and Compass have just told me I am No. 1 in the queue for a free port.  The previous owner was with Vodafone so I have signed up with them today in the hope they might have the free port.

Anyone know how big the cabinet is, or how long I will be waiting in Poraiti?  I see that the cabinet is due for a 20mbs upgrade in June this year.  Is that likely to deliver more ports too?

I have phoned Wasp internet to see if they will do short term wireless broadband as I am on the top of a hill but I am sure they probably want a 12 month term.

If you are in the section of Poraiti Rd covered by cabinet TDL/L then the upgrade will provide additional ports and solve the waiting problem.  The upgrade is due to be completed in approx. 12 months time.

If you are in the part of Poraiti served by the TDL/V cabinet then there is no cabinet upgrade planned.

Port waiter list is not ISP related it's first in first served not matter what ISP the end user signs up with, You will need to wait for someone to disconnect before moving up the list / getting connected

You will also be connected to a Conklin cabinet which have very limited capacity for peak time speed, If you had asked to move the Vodafone account at the address into your name you would not have been a port waiter

Yes I would have if I had known this was a port waiter area, I guess I am next in the queue so that is something...

We are constantly switching over customers in Poraiti that have been on the waiting list for 2+ years.
Give me a call this evening/tomorrow and we should be able to sort something out as we have 4 transmitter sites covering the area.

Edit: 06-929-9082 option 2
I am doing an install out there tomorrow afternoon so can call in and check signal.
