Hi,

I am considering moving to Slingshot Naked VDSL, not sure which VOIP should I go with?

I could choose iTalk for convenient one ISP one biill or better went with 2talk which seems most people in GZ are using? Can't think of any specify requirements for VOIP, basically just need it to be working I guess.

I had a Linksys ata already and will probably buy a Asus DSL-N66u for VDSL modem.

I like 2talk since its prepaid so I can control spend, If the device gets owned and credentials used for calls to third world dictatorships then I am only out the credit on the account.

I stick with iTalk, its provided on the same network so don't need to transit to another network and the VoIP provider can't blame anything on Slingshot. Overseas calls can be  patchy during peak times and weekends if you're unlucky, but suspect related to the ADSL/UBS network half the time.




Time to find a new industry!

Thanks guys for the feedback, any difference if I want move Naked DSL later to different ISP, could I still using iTalk with say Spark/Snap, I would think shouldn't be an issue with 2Talk? 

Could I then moving my VoIP service between iTalk and 2Talk or Skype later and keeping my existing local phone number?

Is it even possible to port either iTalk or 2Talk number (if it was a local phone number) back to a local phone number to say Spark with DSL + Homeline package, it doesn't sounds like a likely scenario, but lets say in case...

You can only port back to someone that re-sells chorus service if its on the same exchange the number was on in the first place. Really old gear cant handle the port across town.

We've just changed from a normal phone line and broadband, with Slingshot, to naked broadband and a 2talk line.
Everything is working great so far and is costing us less per month for more data.
We went with 2talk as we already have a 2talk account at work so adding another line is only $6+gst per month.
Originally the number was ported to iTalk and it seemed to work well but was only used there for about a week before it was ported to 2talk.

Thanks, I was hoping someone could using both and point out one is better than other as his/her own experience, but seems most people just using one and seems happy and not bothering moving from one VoIP to another.

From my understanding, a few people mentioned that italk is just retail version of 2talk, so now I would think they should working pretty much the same; the billing will be different as Richard mentioned and the features might be slightly different but I would imagine the import features: Caller ID, call forwarding on top of my head should be here.

On my situation, I could go with either it seems, but I think I will go with italk for home number as Slingshot will take care of the porting number and connection together and one less thing to worry for me, and I just discovered that italk including 500 minutes local and international minutes together where 2talk is 2000 local and 250 internal and to me italk could work out slightly cheaper to me as I make more internal call than the local calls. But I still didn't see much difference at all.

You mean Spark right, Chorus doesn't own the POTS exchange gear.

Normally you port the local phone number to your new iTalk service, so in this case you could port it back again. Not sure if you can port an iTalk number to a fixed line number, but you could definitely port to another VoIP provider. Watch out that 2Talk are not famous for their custoemr service, they prefer to wholesale to installers that provide the first line of customer service. Most ISPs do now have their own VoIP product such as iTalk that you can port your existing phone number to, and they can do the support or investigations that you would expect if you had problems on a landline. That would include assisting the GCSB to find your terrorist friends... undecided

Slingshot moved my CBD landline number across town, although it seems to just divert to the real local number.
