So currently we are getting UFB installed in our area, Hooray!

The install up our street was meant to be simple, well at least we thought. They had originally planned to mole tunnel up our street. They finally decided there wasn't enough room as there is a 11kV line running up the middle of the road. So they resorted to trenching up the street which has been nothing short of absolute shambles.

Basic summary:

  • 150m long street, single lane
  • 6th week into digging up the road
  • blocked road every day for first 2 weeks with out telling us = couldn't get cars out
  • occasional digging almost every week since
  • fences and equipment dumped on garden, inside our driveway off the road
  • parked vehicles in our drive way without asking, happy to let them so long as they ask
  • used our hose (and water) without asking, damaged when returned, just dumped in front of our garage when it was originally hung tidily.
Who do we complain to about what is going on? Would chorus care? Since the contractors are representing them, to a degree.

I guess the most annoying part thats made this a bad experience is the lack of communication from the contractors, not bothering to tell us anything, or simply being courteous.

You should have received work notifications with contact details, and there should be clear signage up on who to contact.

We probably did receive a letter from chorus/contractors just before the work started, but I doubt we still have it since it was at least 2 months ago.
I have not seen any signs around, I guess if one exists its somewhere in the area but not near us/its not clearly marked.

Here in Christchurch... my street received NO notification. Absolute chaos...not even a road works sign in site!
Sub contracted so many layers that the job is being done the cheapest way possible to pay for all the Non-workers flash 4WD's etc.
Close both footpaths at the same time etc so the school kids doing cross country practice had to run down the middle of the road.
Enable don't give a stuff!

Also in Christchurch with Enable. The contractors did one side footpath at a time. Advised us when driveways would be blocked. Overall the whole process was completed fairly painlessly. No complaints here.

I'd say Chorus will most definitely be interested.  Suggest you get in touch with them.

Maybe contact transfield? i think they have the contract in nelson. surely they would like to sort things out with there contractors pretty quickly and before chorus finds out what they have done.

I came home to find a drilling machine parked on my section / driveway when they did ours. No request to leave it there etc. Made a mess of the lawn bit that was there moving it in and out but ultimately they cleaned it up and I did use the contact details and fed back to them that it would have been nice if they could ask to leave equipment on peoples properties.

This was in Porirua btw.

Didn't really have a problem with them parking on our front lawn with diggers etc when they were working - worth it to get Fibre.

However un-notified road closures and the other stuff there sound awful. We had signage with the company name on it - anything like that nearby?

Most of the vehicles around here had no signage!
Amazingly inefficient too...dig...leave weeks - seal - then dig again...on new sealed bit the same week...then rinse and repeat!
3 different sealing contractors so far!

What you describe sounds quite awful.

I don't get why they would block the road.
