I have just got UFB in my street and don'' want to take out a 12 month contract as I might not be here for that long. I owuld appreciate advice on:

a) Can I haggle doen installation costs with any ISPs by supplying my own modem/router?
b) Will my Airport Express suffice?
c) Or are any companies likely to waive the contract cancellation fee if I leave the country?

a) not likely, they still have to have the work done to install the ONT to connect to UFB
b) only if you go with an ISP that doesnt have VLAN tagging by default like bigpipe
c) doubt it, would be forwarded for debt collection

if you dont want a contract go with an ISP that doesnt have a contract

a) No, The install cost should be nix ( or minimal) (As the government is helping to fund the rollout)

b) Nope, ( For most providers you need something that does Vlan tagging-) - but you can so this with a switch and still keep the AE

C) Find a ISP that doesn't have a 12 month term (*cough* bigpipe), but there may be others...

B) This is where I promote my own thread listing which ISPs require VLAN tagging.

CFH (government agency) are contributing to the cost for the network roll out past your boundary by the LFCs / LFCs (network operators - Chorus, Enable, Ultra Fast etc) are paying for the installation into your house - and they change some recovery fees to RSPs for this / The RSPs (Spark, VF, Snap, Myrepublic, Bigpipe etc etc etc) are either changeing a setup fee or not but most have period term contracts to cover the installation recovery fees from the LFCs

sounds like Bigpipe is ideal for you :)

a) We don't have a 12 month contract, and only charge a $49 connection fee to cover our own costs. BYO router.

b) You will be able to use your airport express with us since we do not require VLAN tagging. (IF you don't know what that is, then it isn't relevant to you at all)

c) all our plans are 'leave anytime' which means you just need to give us 1 business day's notice to leave. We do't have any cancelation fee or anything like that.

(If you are in Welington, Auckland, or Dunedin areas we can service you. Other regions are coming but at least 1 month away)
