I use the OOKLA speedtest every day.

Today a new option is being offered: Speedtest beta

"The new generation of Speedtest is here! ... Try it Now"

This takes me to a new URL: http://beta.speedtest.net/server/4118

... with a BEGIN TEST button:

... which does absolutely nothing when I click on it.  frown

I have Flash.
I have NOT opened an account.

The "old" OOKLA works perfectly.

Have other Geekzoners got this to work?

I suppose they followed the Google and Apple trend of flat colours and smooth edges with no blending.
Beta UI i suppose? They have an extensive list of servers somehow i doubt they have had some upgrade to support some beta. Whether they actually changed the way the speedtest is delivered or what ever.
So under the hood id assume its the same.

Works well for me and the biggest thing is it does not use Flash.
Cannot say I love the design but its a big win that it no longer requires flash

I have often wondered how and why Speedtest is used more by some than others, can you comment on why you use it every day?

BTW it worked well for me on a Mac with OS X 10.10.5

Doesn't work for me on the work connection, but works on a vodafone cable connection.

It appears extensions like Disconnect and adblockers interfere with this new version. Seems to work fine enough though. Works on mobile too (chrome android) if you tell it to use the desktop site.

To follow on from earlier, worked fine for me even with Ublock Origin and Privacy Badger turned on, on Spark UFB (ChCh) & Vodafone Cable (Kapiti), but didn't work on the corporate connection (which I believe is Snap provided, but is a private AS)

I've now tried out the Beta OOKLA on 6 PCs (assorted hardware).

All are running Win 10 Pro with Flash (latest), Firefox (latest) and Adblock Plus.

I confirm that Beta OOKLA does not work with Adblock turned on.   <<<   This is BAD - the ads are very obtrusive.

Unfortunately, it sometimes won't run even with Adblock turned off - lots of "Download Test Errors".

With two PCs I had to do a fresh install of Firefox without Adblock before I could get Beta OOKLA to run.

Until it's out of beta, I'll continue to use the "old" OOKLA.

Seems to work fine on Flick/W10, Chrome, with Adblock Plus turned on. On my 30/10 connection it reports 26/5 to the USA - probably multithreaded.

Then I tested to a Wellington Vodafone connection and got 28/2. Not so hot. Wonder if it's because of lack of peering with VF - their routing always was creative.

Citylink Wellington is basically 30/10, as is Inspire.Net.

Working at home in Safari 9.0.1. Notably the ping results look much more realistic than they used to (7 instead of ~30; apparently the OS X version of Flash has an issue there).

@JohnButt

I am a TrueNet volunteer, but TrueNet stats, although very useful, show trends over the past week(s) rather than real-time performance.

I am on VF cable in Island Bay, and have had ongoing problems with peak congestion, even after the major upgrade of 01 October.

Therefore I test my connection with OOKLA and nPerf several times every day, and compare results with my TrueNet stats.

In summary, I am a compulsive tester smile
