Hello all,

We live in Rotorua about 5km from town centre (as the tui flys).  Most of Rotorua has a cable install in their street.  Somehow ours missed out (I suspect it some historical thing, we don't get a mail delivery despite being in town).  There are suburbs either side of us with cable and it gets within 500m of our street.  I wrote to Crown Fibre, who then passed me onto Chorus who then passed me onto the local council who looked really strangley at me as the couldn't see how the decision came from them.

Does anyone have any idea how areas are chosen (and by whom) and how you can try to get put on that list?

Cheers

Martyn

The UFB rollout is complete in Rotorua. Your chances of getting UFB are basically non existant. The 5% expansion of UFB will be in new towns that missed the original cut, not expansion in existing cities.

If you have a truckload of cash (into six figures) you could pay to have it installed pretty much anywhere.

Oh well.  Hopefully no one decides to switch off the copper network soon (and streaming doesn't ramp up size of files etc in the future).  Thanks for the replies.

What is your current connection? I assume you're very clearly rural rather than urban?

Without knowing exactly where you are it's pretty hard to comment on specifics but looking at the coverage maps up there those areas outside the UFB footprint have fantastic VDSL2 coverage.

Enter your address using the chorus map https://www.chorus.co.nz/broadband-options/for-business/broadband-map and tell us what do you get now?

Thanks

I have checked chorus (our street is Iri-Irikapua Parade), we can only get ADSL.  Here is the screen capture from the broadband map with fibre marked.  We are the big X.  As you can see we aren't rural but marooned on the penninsula in town hence the disappointment with missing out esp when it is so so close.

It's a strange location really.. One can assume it's something to do with the zoning in that area - one assumes it's zoned as rural or semi rural rather than urban.

Yep, ADSL only. Maybe wireless would work better for you.

That's certainly what I would call rural (and I grew up in a very rural area).
