I have read that some parts of NZ are getting UFB fibre distributed by street overhead fibre cables.

How reliable are those overhead cables? (compared to underground).

Are the overhead cables temporary until underground distribution can be installed.

They wont get dug up

They are just as reliable and they are just as permanent - overhead construction of the UFB networks (across all of the LFC areas) have been around since day 1 (over five years ago now) and conventional fibre many years before that - Just like are large proportion of power or copper phone distribution in NZ

We have had our overhead cable for a while, it comes across from the opposite side of the road. We have had no issues so hope that puts your worries to rest :)

I've had overhead fiber for a year and it's been the most reliable internet connection I've ever had. It doesn't have any problems even in storm like we're getting now, 150kph winds.

As I do more reading I see there are lots of areas with overhead fibre.

At present our power and phone copper is overhead to our boundary and then underground to our house.

Hope the fibre will be underground from our boundary to our house.

Good to hear that the overhead fibre works well.

One issue I hit, I tried to get over head fibre here and after 3 months chorus and Wellington electricity were still arguing over putting putting it on the power poles so I gave up and got cable which I think just went on the same pole but took five days from start to install.

That being said cable sucks at the moment so I'll probably give this another go now I'm in less of a hurry for it to happen.

Took 8 months for WE to agree to my overhead install, I was the first in my street. Plus the power goes out a lot more regularly than it should. Not that impressed with WE, foreign owned so it's just an asset to them, not something they care about doing a good job.

if your phone line is underground, then more than likely your fibre will be too
