Despite being literally 20kms from the beehive I've got third world internet access. I'm about 6.5 kms from the dslam, i get about 1mb down on a good day via adsl. In the evening when my neighbours use the internet too, it's worse - practically unusable. Even at it's best watching anything streaming isn't an option.
I can't see Chorus ever running a new cable down our road to service 5 houses - it would never make economic sense - so I'm wondering about other options.
I don't have line of site to Mt Kaukau, but I have access to a spot on a hill that does and is only a few hundred meters away.
Many years back I spoke to a chap from Kordia who said there was someone broadcasting wifi from Kaukau, but at that stage, they didn't have a consumer offering.
Anyone know if anything changed?
I'm in a valley, no 3G coverage either so cellular options aren't a go, satellite seem to be just as slow and more expensive, so no point there.
