Hey guys,
Just trying to find out who I should be talking to with regards to rural fibre. Currently in between a rock and a hard place internet wise - mine is the last property connected to the only cabinet in the area that's still on 1mbs ADSL where every other cabinet in the area has been upgraded to VDSL (annoyingly two of my neighbours are able to get vdsl haha). According to a Chorus tech and their broadband map/rollout map there are no plans for anything else here in the future.
However the interesting thing (as least to me) is that I've got fibre running the length of my fence line and underneath my driveway that's been there for approximately 18 months but I've since been told by Chorus that it's national redundancy loop from Tauranga to Rotorua and won't ever be available for connections. However on the other side of the road to me is a separate install of fibre that was run for the school a couple of kilometers past me roughly 7 years ago and a while back in a previous post on these forums a Chorus chap linked me to the Chorus rural fibre map showing that it's available for connection.
The problem I'm now having is that Chorus says to talk to my isp rather than them which is fine but having talked to 2Degrees which is who I'm currently with and Spark - none of the people I've talked to there have any idea at all with regards to rural fibre and can only tell me that according to my address there is no fixed broadband available at all and that I should try talking to Chorus.
Does anyone have any suggestions on who I should actually be talking to that I might be able to make some progress? Even just being able to find out the cost involved to run it 10 meters or so to the house from the fence line along with hardware or whatever the case may be install wise (I understand that it will be costly but there's not many other options other than staying with what I've got and not doing any work from home). Probably a long shot with being able to sort anything out but it can't hurt to try.
Cheers guys
Edit: Thought I'd included my location in there but obviously not. Location is *** Tauranga
