Currently looking at Amuri Wireless broadband (not 4G) in the Banks Peninsula (Canterbury) area. I'm approx. 5km from the tower with excellent line of sight.

Previously tried out Skinny 4G Wireless but speed was too hit-and-miss.

Anybody know what kind of latency I can expect using the likes of the Amuri wireless broadband? Occasionally play games so would prefer it to not be significantly worse than current ADSL connection.

I'd personally recommend a two part setup here.

go with adsl interleavings off for gaming and wireless for traffic.

This obviously is not the cheapest option, but is your best bet.

That question is impossible to answer as it's not possible to know how the connection is backhauled from the tower.

From the tower to you over their 5GHz will be around 1 or less.

iirc the xDSL is DRM fed to you at present, so it is 'wireless'.

If you want to know about ping on that part of the network, ring Chris and ask him.  He's not running Spark or Vodafone, he's running a small rural (and when I say small, I mean 'covering the whole of Canterbury', but that's not the point) network and will know whats happening at each node.

I don't know how many other subs are on that node.  I also don't know what gear he's got running on that node, but Chris does, so talk to them directly.

You also have to remember that the small WISP's are very demand driven, not budget driven.  As they pick up more customers on a node, and new technology comes out, they upgrade things, unlike larger carriers, who run on much larger and longer investment cycles.

Assuming they're using 5Ghz.  We're seeing more and more 11Ghz, 24Ghz and licensed spectrum equipment in the network too.
