Hi,

So I had another thread about FibreX not being available at the house I'm buying. I found out that they already have UFB installed with 2degrees at the property. How do I go about getting set up with a different provider when I move in? primarily want to answer the following:

  • How far in advance should I call to set it up
  • Do I need to say anything in particular in regards to the fact that the current owners already have UFB?
  • Should I expect to have internet available on the day that I move in?

Thinking about joining with Bigpipe as their 100/20 plan is good value.

Cheers,

Nick

Contact the ISP you wish to organise it through. And order it for a suitable date.

If an ONT is installed already, then it is likely that you wont need a site visit.

Exact same situation with us, it had 2D as well oddly. We moved in, the previous owner had since cancelled or move addressed it. I called Spark once we had possession, it was up in 3 days, I didnt get a router as already had one from where we moved from. As its intact, there is no fibre drama to worry about.

I went through this last year and had internet the day I moved in.

2degrees/enable stood up the second port on the ONT in advance so it didn't interrupt the previous owner, then moving day I just plugged everything into port 2.

You don't need to say that there's an intact ONT as your ISP can look it up in the system, but it wouldn't hurt to say it. With an intact ONT you can get a connection on the second port in one business day.

There's a gotcha you need to watch out for. If for example the current owner has booked a disconnection on their port for July 4, then the new ISP can't do anything until July 5. A pending disconnection on one port will block other companies from submitting orders on any of the other ports, until it has been completed. Therefore it's good idea to get your order in ASAP, before the current owners put in their disconnect.

You can specify the connection date with bigpipe.

Id be getting things kicked off ASAP just to ensure that they can book the service request with the local provider for the timeframe you want.

Also here's my shameless plug for a $20 discount for both of us if you sign up with Bigpipe.

You are a very lucky man.  smile

I have to live with "FibreX" cable for another two years before "real" fibre becomes available.

I would suggest BigPipe for naked fibre.

Thanks for that. I will use your link :)

I can't sign up yet as we have not gone unconditional on the house (not until 3 July) and don't settle until 11 August.

Before you move in make sure the previous owners don't take the ONT power cable. Seems to be so common lately.

I don't really know what to look for, apparently its in the garage behind a panel or something. The house is ethernet wired in most rooms too.
