Hi All

Can anyone please recommend who might be the best option to go with for a customer of mine that wants ADSL2.. they are in Auckland central (Victoris ST)and have said they want good speeds but a reasonable amount of data..

Xnet is looking to be maybe the best balance of data/cost but do they provide an ADSL2 circuit?

Any comments/suggestions would be much appreciated!

Cheers

Ash

Xnet uses telecoms equipment for ADSL. I'm not sure, but i think Xnet caps to 8mbit ADSL1 even on an ADSL2 line unless you have Fusion. Cant remember.

Vodafone says you can get the Red Network in october 2008, and i cant get orcons address checker working.

In that area you will probably get ADSL2 but internet traffic seems to be pretty congested (I tested mine just now at 2.5Mbps) so there is no guarantee that "full speed" will be as fast as your modem synchronises the ADSL. Also keep in mind that you need to go for full speed upstream if you want a theoretical maximum of more than 4Mbps on a file download. If you connect to telecom equipment then you wont know which equipment until its connected, but you have a reasonable chance in the city to get ADSL2+.

Time to find a new industry!

Actually, I don't think ADSL2 is ready for use in Auckland - I signed up with orcon a few months ago and have had constant problems, including poor speed, unreliability (internet and phone) and now they've told me they're going to increase the charges by over 30% from next month. Their help desk people are generally responsive and helpful but the way it's been rolled out has been poor.

My recommendation - don't sign up with anyone without doing plenty of research and finding some satisfied customers!

I use XNET Fusion.  Connection is ADSL 2+ but Telecom limit this in the exchange to standard ADSL speeds. having said that I regulalry get those speeds with 5 to 6 MBps being the normal download speed.

I went XNET Fusion as it cost less than my previous Woosh ADSL connection plus Telecom phone rental and with data at $1/GB it works out really a good deal for a high volume user like me.  Most plans are capped with really expensive data charges.  At my work we pay Telecom $50/GB which is extortinate.  Its in the city.

Reliability was a little tempremental when I started about 1 year ago but to be honest its been rock solid for at leats the last 6 months, no reboots required.  I have phone over TCP/IP, the Fusion part of the plan, and that's working very well.  No word on when ADSL 2+ speeds will be available.
