Situation -

 

Rural VDSL2 connection, ~370m from exchange building to demarc (cable path). Was very stable and reliable pre-vectoring so main benefit in this case would be speed.

 

CPE = Mikrotik HAP ac and Metanoia MT-V5311

I noticed from my Parents connection that it will go through a full DLM cycle again once Vectoring is turned on. It could well improve again. They went from 120/30Mbit sync to 150/30Mbit in a few days.

 

Nice bump in speed however!

uh, 150? that doesn't seem right... the cards are only meant to do 150 aggregated which is why the upstream rates were dropped to 30.

Results with my Cisco 887VA. This indicates it does support vectoring though note the modem firmware and IOS I used.

 

Sorry, no before image but previous speed test results were 59Mbps at best.

This is consistently a 2-3mbit rise on my link, it's great.

 

Also a pain at the same time though as i have to cycle PPP in order to update QOS profiles

 

 

 

 

 

Do you have numbers that can be shared on how much of the vectored lines have SRA active on the modem end?

 

I'm quite curious on that one...

Vectoring was not enabled on our cabinet until last week and our sync rate is identical.

 

However, I'm curious to know if other VDSL2 users have experienced a drop in download speed after vectoring activation?

 

I accept the fact that upload is now pegged at 30 Mbps but I did expect to see an increase in our download given the consistent stable high sync rates we get on our connection...

 

Before Vectoring: Modem Sync 106/35 Mbps -- Speed Tests 92/33 Mbps (Ping 13) -- Download Loss: 14 Mbps drop.
After Vectoring:   Modem Sync 124/30 Mbps -- Speed Tests 80/27 Mbps (Ping 13) -- Download Loss: 44 Mbps drop ??

 

I'm using a bridged Draytek DV130 and flashed the firmware from 3.8.2_m4 to 3.8.3_m8 last night with no differences noted to either sync rates or speed tests.

Any comments on Modem_8 vs Modem_4 from Draytek owners because we were using _m4 previously as the recommended option?

 

Yes, I know that we can't complain about sync and speed rates we get but I am still curious why the actual speed results are less than expected.

@datahawk try dropping and reestablishing your PPP session to see if it comes up.

 

I'd suspect the limit is on providers end, many don't handle SRA very well at this stage so you could be pegging at sync rate (it is the first time it's been used afterall)

 

80 to 124 is a massive climb for it to be SRA related though..

 

 

 

@chorusnz have been sneeky with this lot, i didnt see lists for when the flicked the switch (or i totally missed them)

 

 

 

 

 

Your pegging out the vectored line now though! impressive at 12dB!

I just did a full power down and restart of the Nighthawk R7000 router to reconnect the PPP link but all actual speed tests are still maxing out at around 80/28 Mbps on a full 124/30 Mbps modem sync. (Actuals were returning 92/33 before our vectoring upgrade - Go figure)

 

I'm with Spark.

 

Anyone else such as @michaelmurfy able to give me some idea of actual speed tests that (their parents) are getting on top end modem sync rates?
