Hi guys, I`m a new Xnet Fusion subscriber (ADSL 2+ Full/Full) and I`m suffering from awful international speeds late evening. Right now, my speedtest download to the US and Europe ranges from about 200 kbps to about 500 kbps. Watching videos on Youtube is totally out of the question. I hear this has been an issue with Xnet ever since they started, and I never had it with Telecom Xtra. So decided that Xnet was worth a try, but gotta move on to something decent.
So my question is, is there an ISP out there that offers Naked DSL and is not affected by such speed issues?

At the prices you are expecting there will always be shared bandwidth, the question is how bad will the congestion be at peak times. So no, all ISPs must manage congestion in one way or another.

Time to find a new industry!

Check some NZ speedtests at those times to make sure its only international that is affected.

These were my last speedtests at peak evening times, around 9.30 PM. National speeds are about a third of daytime national speeds, but international ones are less than a tenth of daytime international speeds. I don`t expect the same peak speeds as off-peak ones, but Xnet`s gotta draw the minimum line much higher than a woeful 400 kbps on a FS/FS plan. If they can`t, they should stop offering full speed plans.

I`m not gonna read through 32 pages of posts. Especially cos that thread is about Xnet, but what I`m looking for here is to explore alternatives.

It's been done to death because it is a valid complaint. An ISP shouldn't be able to get away with those kinds of speeds (especially if they are being seen by a large number of users) for such an extended period of time. They need to fix it.
I know they ahve taken steps to correct the issue - but those steps have been in place for a while now - so obviously they aren't really having the desired effect.
Clearly Xnet needs more international bandwidth to cover peak times.

Well - that's what they're there for.

Check out the NZConnections wiki for information on who provides naked DSL and at what prices - then skim through the threads (you don't have to read every post!!) to get a feel for what sort of service you think the providers are able to offer. Remembering, of course, that people very rarely post when they're happy.
