Fibre is going to be available next month in my area. I was wondering if fibre is indeed available next month does this mean gigabit fibre will also be available along with it or does it take more time for chorus to support gigabit fibre in the area where fibre has just been installed?

Gb should be available straight away from the Chorus side

Once the rollout is complete, and our website says Fibre is ready to order. Then yes, the gig is available right away. Although not all broadband providers offer Gigabit plans in all areas. Best to check with your provider on that. ^Richard

Thanks

One last question

Does the street get a letter once the fibre is complete and ready for signup?

A month ago I received a letter advising fibre is being installed on the street.

When looking up the chorus broadband checker it says available in May but through the Orcon website it shows I can sign up for 100/20 but not 900/450

2Degrees doesn't show I have fibre but from Spark website it shows I can sign up for 1000Mbps.

So.. I'm a little confused whether fibre is ready yet?

I did see people laying fibre a month ago but they aren't there anymore to ask

Pop your address into www.chorus.co.nz and see what you get - as far as I know that is pretty accurate. It does seem to take some time for providers to all update their sites.

It's pretty accurate - but not 100%. Sometimes the internal Chorus Portal ISPs use will show different info to the public Chorus site. The best way to confirm would be to call up the ISP of your choice and ask them to check Chorus Portal for you.

This sounds like 2d side isn't using B2B or the address lookup is going to the wrong place (it happens. matching addreses across systems etc is a PITA)

@NickMack may be able to advise?

I got the "arriving soon" letter, then about a week after I had already been installed I got the "now available" letter ;)

No worries :-)

Letter drops do still happen but they’re not always right away. As has been suggested, have a look on the address checker at www.chorus.co.nz. We usually update that pretty lickety split after the street is ready to start taking Fibre orders.

As has also been pointed out, some broadband providers can be a little behind the times (even when our site says its available) so the most sure fire way is for them to check on our ordering tool which they all have access to.

If you’re still having issues, feel free to send us a private message with your address and I’d be happy to check for you. ^Richard

Definitely using B2B - I'm not sure of how often we get updates for the address lookups. If Chorus says it's available, it is - You can simply call 0800022022 and talk to a CSR, or place an order with xdsl and then phone in to change it.
