Hi nice people from Geekzone, I was wondering if someone could help me. I got a D-Lynk G604T wireless router and
i can use both lan and wireless connections however i have been unabled to secure the wireless network and my internet broadband
is running out withing a week or soYell, i have tried to set up password or wap, wep etc and nothing works soon as setup a security
than the router does not let me connect in the manage wireless connection window in Vista my wireless network is visible there but does not let me select it to connect and displays a message saying 'the settings of this computer don't match the settings of the network'Surprised but soon as set wireless security to none than wireless network connects fine, so at the moment i have the router working both lan and wireless but without security because even the telecom support desk give up after couple of hours on the phone following intructions from a technitian from the Philipines....well this is my problem i supect someone is stealing my broadband and i can't secure the network.

cheers,

Lew

Do a hard reset on the device, and then re enter all of your details. And secure/disable the wireless connection at the same time.

Though it is my understanding that the connection was disabled to start off with.

How long have you had the modem? If it less than a couple of years Telecom will almost certainly replace it with a new Thomson one free of charge if you tell them it has developed a fault.

What little I have heard about those has been all bad... but happy to hear stories to the contrary

Perform a hard reset, and set up from scratch.

Memorise the process... you will be doing it again within a year or so...

Other security option is to setup Access control, you have to manuall add every MAC address of the devices you want to be able to connect.

I query if the warning is because your hardware (that is desktop) is not the same support ie. its wireless B and WAP is wireless G & N

If you want real help you will need to write down the versions of 1) Router & 2) Wifi device versions too (ie. what you use to connect to your wifi on your desktop)

If you are turning on security then change the ssid as well, since windows will remember the default one has no security and not prompt when you try to connect, you can remove it from the list but I have had to reboot to get it to re-try it with wpa, easier and more sensible to change the ssid to something other then "dlink-wireless" or whatever it defaults to.
