Hi,

I used VDSL with phone line for many years with Spark and now time to switch. No UFB roll out for many years at the moment.

Vodafone offers $200 credit for 12-month contract and Trustpower offers $45*12 discount for 24-month contract at the moment.

On the face value, Trustpower is way to go, however Trustpower put 20mb/10mb on the speed indication where Vodafone does not state any specific speed on the connection.

Would the actual connection speed ever differ to what I'm getting at the moment with Spark?

Your thought would be very helpful for next 12/24 month. :)

Cheers

Shin

Geeks don't let fellow geeks sign up with Vodafone or Trustpower.

2degrees seems to have the best rep at the moment and have some aggressive new customer deals.

I would sign up with Vodafone before trust power and I think they will want a 24 month contract

I don't chase "free credit" "free Netflix" "free rugby world cup" I just go for the company that provides me with the best service and stick with them, and that's Bigpipe sure they don't have a helpdesk but I dont need one

I wouldn't go with either. 2degrees have some good pricing (as John and others will tell you :)) otherwise maybe Voyager? But those are only two suggestions :)

I have never needed any support from my ISP :)

Just to make sure you are aware, the ISP does not in any way affect your line speed - the physical line is the same no matter who you go with.

The different speeds you are seeing are probably just a best guess from the ISP.

As the others have said, don't go with TrustPower, and 2Degrees support you will probably find a lot better than Vodafone's.

I was with Trustpower. No complaints with the speed/performance etc but the flip side to the discount in the 12 month is that they had/have some pretty nasty early termination fees that make it cheaper to simply see out the 24 month term. I tried cancelling before they had even commenced supplying power and internet (due to them incorrectly telling me I was out of contract with my former power company) and they threatened me with a high triple digit/low 4 digit termination fee so it was never a happy relationship.

Thanks @shin for sending your address

Local Exchange RDB3
Local Cabinet RDB/AF
Distance from Local Cabinet 145 Metres
Theoretical Max Speed 130 Mbps down / 30 mbps up

Now you wont really get 130mbps down :) because there is also sorts of factors like internal wiring etc, nor will you get close to that with your ISP supplied router but I would recommend a decent mikrotik router with a Metanoia V5311 VDSL module and you may get close to 100mbps

Regards

Tim

Apologies re the speed indication on the website saying 20/10 for VDSL - I have this raised with the relevant people internally.

Based on the information from Tim above the VDSL speeds you get should be pretty good!

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions re Trustpower or reach out to our chat team via our website who are always happy to help :)

I would go for 2degrees or bigpipe. If you are used to certain speed on Spark you will have the same experience on bigpipe as it is exactly the same infrastructure with the same speed tuning to improve performance.
Voyager are also good from what I have heard.

a V5311? those got shunned pretty hard after actually being used in force.. they get quite warm and dont really perform as flexible as just bridging..
