My folks have a house that no one lives in.

They were going to move in and then they weren't, and then they were and then they weren't etc.

Meanwhile it sits empty. It has power and water, but no phone (copper line is there though).

I was wondering if it's worth getting the fibre installed while it's still free to do so.

But how do you order fibre to be installed but not activated? For a house that has no ISP account associated with it?

I think in some parts of the country, the fibre companies (LFC) will install their bits without a request form an RSP. Christchurch springs to mind.

Maybe ask the LFC for their area (Chorus, Enable etc.)

The house is in Tauranga (the folks are not).

Is that a Chorus area?

Ultra Fast Fibre (UFF) is Tauranga's UFB provider

Does anyone have a ready to hand list of ISPs that allow month by month.

Stuff Fibre, Bigpipe, and Voyager all have options for no month contracts

While I suggested this as a possible option it is a pretty low ball thing to do

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

RSP's aren't a fan of that being done for obvious reasons :)

Chorus do their street in a week, preinstall etc deployments, but generally that's only done on an install area basis (so their techs can get the most optimal use of time)

There should be an option for a home owner of a rental property to pay the LFC to get this done making property "intact" for their tenants

Yup, although personally i'd prefer to be in a flat and order fibre and have it installed somewhere good rather than.... in the under the sink, above the sink.... in the laundry....

or next to a powerpoint...

If Liz and I ever do a stint in the US (Not anytime soon obviously) whoever rents our house will have an ONT under the stairs next to a rack with 2x Cat6 in each room and 1 on the ceiling in each level for WAPs
