Soon I am planning on moving into a new flat but the problem is I have heard the people living there already have broadband but not anything like what I will be needing, especially as I am planning on working from home sometimes and will need things like a static ip and lots of bandwidth and data usage.

I realise that it is probably not possible but I was wondering if there is a way to have 2 broadband connections running simultaneously on the same physical phone line as I dont really want to pay the $150 for a new phone line cause I may not be in the house for more than a few months.

The other option I have I guess is getting wireless broadband, in which case does anyone have any suggestions on what provider I could/should use and their experiences with them?

Hi, answer is no, you can only have one DSL account connected on any one line, period.

Hope that helps

What is possible is 2 different accounts could be used as long as they are both on the same ISP. So if you run out of data cap on the 1st account, then you could change the username/password to second account in the modem and then use the data cap out of that. Best works with Go Large which is an unlimited plan.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Or just offer to pay the difference between the plan they are on, and a plan that will suit your needs. Probably the cheapest option.

Get the 2nd line, then you know where you are at with phone costs, data cost and network activity s92a.

I asked this of Slingshot and no Telecom have no way to provide such a service, something about being hardwired or something.

Have you looked at a wireless provider?

Yeah I think I'm going to have to look into either offering to pay the difference between the pla they are on now or a wireless provider.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

oooh, that would be quite handy, my 60 gigs is going unsued right now and go large is slooooow.

I'd totally suggest he second line or upgrade the one account to have enough for both then do QoS but then you get the danger of them sucking torrents for days on end.. My 2wire router has options for "users" I notice to give them quotas and speed restrictions!

I'm quite sure it used to work with multiple providers, it was a $30 telecom billed charge then the ISP charge billed by the isp.

A mate in New Plymouth recently needed two DSL connections on the same section and was told by telecom the only way to do it, was to install a second line on the property, which they did, one DSL account is hers for the main house and second DSL account is for her mother in the granny flat out the back.

Yeah, and after looking into it, it would actually be cheaper to go for the second line than to go for Woosh, by about $100 I think, so if it comes down to it I'll do that. Only problem is there are already 2 houses with 2 landlines on the property, hopefully if I need it a 3rd wont be a huge problem.
