Some advice here would be appreciated.
My modem (Dynalink RTA1025) says I have Line Rate of around 20000 Kpbs.
However Speedtest is coming up with results around the 4 Mpbs mark.
I am on Orcon via Telecom Wholesale.
The local Telecom Whisper cabinet is less than 250m from my house.
There is a Splitter installed at the demarc point, so there is no point in doing an isolation test.
Thanks

Firstly, take speedtest with a grain of salt. It's a specific test between two points. If there's a single problem between those two points, you might (well, you will) get bad results. That doesn't mean your whole connection is slow.

Having said that, just because you've sync'd at 20Mb/s, doesn't mean you'll ever get that! Your ISP might have backhaul issues (from the exchange to their datacentre), local peering issues (Speedtest is usually hosted locally thus local peering capacity is tested) or other issues.

Are you seeing poor performance downloading from international sites with something like downloadthemall?

You don't state where you're speedtesting to, or what your actual problem is. Are you really seeing poor performance, or is it just the results you're getting making you unhappy?

Audiophiles are such twits! They buy such pointless stuff: Gold plated cables, $2000 power cords. Idiots.

Do you have FS/FS or FS/128k , if the latter then get the former and your problem will go away.

I have talked to Orcon, and upgraded to Max/Max. Will post updated results once it happens early next week.

There has been an improvement in Download speed, but not as much as expected. I am now getting around 6-7Mbps on the Consumer Speedtest.

Hi, first could you actually post the full line stats from the modem not just the line sync rate. Also you say the line sync rate, is that the attainable or actual, the Dynalinks provide both, the attainable is impossible and simply a calculated figure by the modem.

Also try a speed test at www.speedtest.net and try the auckland server, also make sure that your PC is in good condition and freshly booted and handles flash player well. The speedtest site runs a flash app, I have seen on this PC (running XP and 2Gig of RAM) that if its having issues with memory leaks from other apps recently run then it will never see speeds more than 1-2Mb/s but if its freshly booted will see 15-16Mb/s.

Our kids play lots of online flash games, when these run in FF memory leaks will soon have 2Gbytes of no RAM and a machine falling on its knee's and the above condition.

Hi, that looks ok although the errors may be an issue, what time frame are those ones accumulated over, try redoing the speedtest noting the error count to get a feel for how many impacted in a real time frame.

Also what is the measured speedtest uplink speed, as thats the one the errors are impacting.

Failing that I would be talking to Orcon with a please explain.

Speedtest.net (Auckland Server) is giving me even lower download speed around 3Mb/s, Upload is looking OK at 0.8Mb/s.
When looking at the modem stats, it sometimes says "Webpage can not be found". What would be causing this.

Maybe your Dynalink is dying or there is ethernet issues causing packet loss between your PC and the modem, ahhhhhhhh how are you connecting to you modem, via wireless, then that may well be the problem, if you are try a wired connection.

I have a wired connection. I have tested the computer plugged directly into the modem rather than through the home network, and get the same results.
Maybe I should be looking at a replacement Modem, any suggestions?

My favourite is the TP-Link 8840 or the old DSE XH9949, but the latter no longer seems to be available.

If you want wireless also the 8901 get good reports, but have not personally used it.
