Rather than needing to loop the ADSL output it now has it's own dedicated pair.

1 pair for PSTN input
1 pair for PSTN output
1 pair for ADSL output

There should be instructions with this telling you all of this.

And no you don't need plug in filters - this is the whole purpuse of the master filter.

Hi, the lattest spec for the new VDSL2 compatible filters requires that three ports are supplied rather than two as in the old spec. If you open most of these new filters you will find the line and DSL port are infact the very same point. The standard does allow and potentially some compliant filter designs allow for a high pass section between the line and DSL port, but all the ones I have tested appear to have only a LP section between the line and phone port and the line and DSL port are the very same point.

The old ADSL filter (MM3200B) supplied only a line and phone port, therefore you needed to make a double termination of the line port to provide the DSL from the same port, these newer VDSL2 filters simply give you a third wire port to make is easier to termiate the DSL connection.

Obviously these new VDSL2 filters are also rated to 30MHz where as the older ADSL/2+ filters are only rated to 2.2MHz, hence only ADSL2+ capable.

As of now there will only be a small remaining stock of the older ADSL2+ filters and only the newer VDSL2 capable filter (as you have a photo of) should be available. These filters are obviously rated for ADSL/ADSL2/ADSL2+ and VDSL2. And if you use one of these filters you run the DSL port to a dedicated socket just for the DSL modem, and the rest of you phone sockets in the house connected to the phone port, so you no longer require inline filters on each phone socket.

And dont plug any phones or other telephony equipment into the ADSL jackpoint! Its for ADSL only so label it to make sure everyone knows; only plug phones into the filtered jackpoints.

Time to find a new industry!

HI

Unless you are on VDSL I would not bother with the extra charge for a new filter, I have tested both on my adsl2 line and has made no noticeable performance gains, getting a better cable paid from the exchange made a notable change.

Chorus, the supply of MM3200B filters has all but dwindled, you can no longer purchase them from the actual source (Marque Magnetics) as they have been officially obsoleted.

Further the new filters are the same price (if you compare the same point in the supply chain).

Why would they improve ADSL2 performance, they are not spec'd to, they are simply designed to maintain their performance through to 30MHz where as the old spec and filters only defined performance to 2.2MHz with no interest above that.

Quite opposite to what you say the "old" 3200B filters are still being installed by chorus techs NZ wide, and the "old" filters are getting cheaper and there are plenty out there even on trademe, a lot of ex telco's garage stocks I assume. I bought 50 at $5 each in september.

I was interested to find out if the "new" splitters were going to be of any benefit on adsl/2 as many shops are advertising them to be newer better faster and found connections speeds to be the same. I think its all hype unless you have vdsl and of no need to "upgrade"

I installed one of these newer VDSL capable splitters and noticed a 1571 kbps improvement in sync speed.

The supplier to Chorus (Ropac) no longer stocks them but has them listed as a obsoleted item, and according to Marque Magnetics, none have been physically built in near on 12months.

Yes there are plenty of old stock sitting around, I too have picked up some deals off trademe. When I install filters now I look at the potential of the site to get usable VDSL2 service and decide then which filter to install, but I dont see any reason for an improvement to ADSL2+, once the filter has provided a certain margin of isolation to the voice band which is much less than what either filter achieves then there is little if any benefit.

the supplier, rocpac, spupplies transfield downer and visionstream, not chorus, rocpac may have the "old" splitter listed as obsolete, just as the old perfectly functional functional 2wire jack points are now obsoleted yet transfield downer visionstream have a fair few boxes to say the least in warehouses just like the perfectly functional splitters,

why should the service companys have to throw the old ones out because some genius decided that "new" splitters must be installed, rocpac arent refunding them, marque magnetics arent, chorus sint, telecom isnt, so the customers get them and they perform fine.

if there is a vdsl installation then a vdsl splitter is requested and installed.

in the case mentioned above i think that a vdsl splitter is not needed by your average geek as the average geek can't afford vdsl. so old style splitters for $5 are the go. then i'd look at having the pair from the exchange looked at, or if necesary move closer, the new filters wont do sweet F all

Hey Chorus, I dont know what your issue is, I never said that the old filters were no longer useful, I also said above that I have taken advantage of the fire sales of them and still install them in locations where VDSL2 is unlikely to occur (ie longer tail connections).

Yes I am aware that Ropac actually sell to Tranfield, Downers etal, who do the actual work for Chorus in Chorus's name, I was not born yesterday.

Bottom line is the old filter is no longer made, thats a simple fact, the new VDSL2 ones replace it, once all the stocks are exhausted where ever they may be you will have no choice but to use the new filter as thats all there will be, sorry if I did not make myself clear in the first place.

Cheers
