FTTH quite literally just got closer for me, with FX trenching fibre past my house as I type. I'd seen the holes dug along the street his week and wondered what Telecom was doing (New cabinet also went ina  few weeks ago, not yet connected). Then as i was driving home I saw all the FX trucks and walked back down the road after I pulled into the driveway. I wonder how soon we'll see affordable FTTH packages from ISP's so I can leech linux iso's at 100mb/s :-)

Hate to burst your bubble but...
FTTH home is years away for existing neighbourhoods.

FX provides fibre point to point between major net users such as ISPs, datacentres or points of presence in major towns. You wont be able to connect to their fibre even though it goes past your house.

But cabnetisation will help you with your linux isos :)

They might have installed a spare duct for FTTH use in future... Never know.

Time to find a new industry!

I've emailed FX a bit and have discussed tapping into fibre going along hte road past a site we were looking at connecting up. From the way the conversation was going, it was possible to tap into it but was very expensive as you can imagine (both the monthly cost and getting it set up)

Yeah I know FTTH is still a long way away. But my theory is that having fibre physically at the curb of my house already means I've got a godo cahnce of a head start on many people :-)

Only if the fibre passing your house is part of the new FTTH network

Unfortunately you don't have a head start at all. FTTH home deployments are a totally different achitecture. Just because you have fibre running past your home doesn't mean it can be used to deliver you services in the future.
