I'm currently with Slingshot, but have reached a point where enough's enough. Their lack of reasonable support just annoys me. And all questions I want to know just go to Telecom Wholesale anyway.

I want to go to Telecom, but the only point of concern I have is will my speed remain the same, get worse or better?

I would imagine it could only get better, as Slingshot uses Telecom's lines anyway, but don't know how it works in reality. Does anyone know or could provide some insight?

Yep, should be heaps faster at peak times in particular, telecom have more light-use customers, whereas slingshot attracts the worst leechers.

I pressume yourre on telecom wholesale gear and not the NBT network?

NBT (Next big thing, their marketing term for unbundled) is only served by specific exchanges, mostly in auckland, hamilton and other main centres.

NBT uses gear that lets you sync adsl2+ slightly faster, and generally has better backhaul. However the main complaint with slingshot (Im on them too!) is the international traffic constraint, so telecom should still be faster, and you will notice the difference most during peak times.

If your phone line rental with slingshot is $49 ($47 before gst hike) then youre probably on wholesale gear, if it is more like $41ish then you will be on NBT gear.

Yes, it's $49, and I'm reasonably sure I'm on wholesale. So Telecom have more international bandwidth?

They never tell you how they provision it, but I suspect that telecom allocate more international bandwidth per user than slingshot.

But what really makes a difference is that with telecom you are sharing it with more light users than with slingshot, so effectively there will be more for you to use.

Much Much Much better on telecom than slingshot, but data is twice the price and no free offpeak so that would add another few hundred to my bill so I put up with slingshot.

NBT (which was reselling vodafone) is no more and they call the unbundled exchange services 'the better network' you can find out what your on by using slingshots address finder, if your on the better network, your homeline will be $2 less than the $49 for the others.

Yes, you should generally get better speeds from Telecom.

i suspect in terms for international traffic, small players have less power when purchasing international bandwidth, or have less bandwidth allocated at peak time - bandwidth/user.
