Hi All,

I have a frustrating issue, we have been scratching our heads for a few days now trying to solve. A couple of clients recently decided to purchase new Cisco SRP500 series 527W Routers (ADSL2+).

One client (client 1) is currently on Vodafone with a DLINK ADSL1 modem which works fine whilst the other (client 2) is on TelstraClear ADSL with a Cisco 837.

The issue we are having is when connecting the new routers we are unable to establish a WAN connection. However client 1 did establish a connection for approx 1 week before it stopped, since then we have been unable to reestablish a connection. Client 2 was similar but it lasted less than 48hours. Now we checked the lines which have very low attenuation (11db). Swapped / removed the filters, dsl cables, etc & upgraded to the latest device firmware with no avail.

These routers have been tested at other sites on the same and different exchanges with a mix of ISP's including one on the same exchange and same ISP as client 1 and they work perfectly.

Client 1's old router runs on G.DMT whilst the new on is set to multimode, they are also both on an older plan not a ADSL2+ plan could this have any effect?

Any ideas or help is much appreciated.

Thanks.

The plan they are on shouldn't affect the DSL sync, try setting the modem to specifically use ADSL2+ and G.DMT and see what happens. ADSL2+ might not be enabled there yet or it might be a problem with the multimode.

Time to find a new industry!

Hi Webwat,

Cheers for the reply. It looks like most people have read this post and placed it into the two hard baskett.

Yesterday I tested the different ADSL modes, G.DMT, ADSL2+ etc but nothing made a difference :(

Hi,

Have you tried running any debugging? Have you tried checking with the service provider to see what if any are the differences between the connection that does work with this router and the one that doesn't.

Have you tried using the bug tracker on the cisco site to look for a bug related to this router and the service provider dslam and/or problems with dsl connection.

I assume that the customers old router works on the link so you have ruled out any line fault. what is the snr?

Regards Jeff

Hi,

Are these routers configured for VoIP? When I first got mine (no VoIP setup) I found that I had very poor uptime. The symptoms I experienced were the router ceasing to respond as outlined in http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=66&topicid=66327

Maverick supplied a resolution that worked a treat.

Perhaps this may be what is occurring with your two clients?

Thanks for the replies. I have read about that issue Oldhat, on the Cisco forums.  I have disabled VOIP and changed the "Restrict source IP" to 'yes' but no luck...

We did get the lines tested and both are all OK 'aparently'. I haven't compared it with the lines that do work but after talking to the ISP's there answers are we dont support that model of router, in otherwords trying to point the blame in other directions.

At this stage I think we might go for something more reliable that works like the Cisco 877 as from what the Cisco tech said on the forums they don't have an ETA on the new firmware.

Cheers for the tips.
