Every now and then I check the speed of my PC's 3G Vodafone connection using the above speed tester. Over the last few days download speeds have been shown up as adequate, but upload speeds are down in low double figures. And oddest of all, where I used to see an invitation to check through servers in Napier or N Island NZ, now I'm being told my nearest servers are in the London area! Huh?

I'm in Napier, using XP SP2, Firefox 4B9, and a Vodafone Vodem Stick on their 3G data network.

Any clues, anyone?

It's probable that speedtest.net uses location data based on IP ranges.

Vodafone may have received a new IP range that was originally allocated to Europe/UK so whenever you are assigned that address block you are directed to the London servers.

if your IP adress is recognised as a UK one, presumably this would mean you could have access to the BBC and other UK television online catch up services...nice bonus?
