Hi there, anyone having ongoing problems since the last outage on Monday May 21?  I have been without Xtra Broadband since it went out last Monday.  Problem at Xtra's end, not mine, after extensive investigations.  They tell me they can't get a Technician out to the exchange until 9 JUNE.  Would appreciate hearing about anyone else who may also be still experiencing problems. Thanx

Is it an exchange specific problem? Which exchange are you on?

Unrelated to Xtra but Orcon had an outage today as well. It came back fairly quickly but outages seem to be the faze with Satellite Television and ADSL providers these days.

bradstewart: Is it an exchange specific problem? Which exchange are you on?

Hi there,  It's all just a bit over my head.  I am on a North Shore, Auckland exchange.  It doesn't seem to be a problem with the whole exchange, just my connection, but then how would I know?  They won't tell me that there are several people in my area with the same problem even if there were.  They say that they can't get a Technician out to look at the problem until 9 June as I have a residential connection, even though I work from home using the Internet.  I've been told that the Technicians are busy with new connections (excuse me?  I've been with Xtra for 10 years!!!!) I bet if Theresa Gattuang (or whatever her name is) had a problem at home that they would have it fixed within hours.  They have given me unlimited Dial-Up Access (so kind don't you think?) until they can fix the problem.  Obviously I'm feeling a bit P**ssed O*f aobut the whole thing.

Thanks for your replies, I would have been really interested to find out if there were others experiencing the same problems as me (just so I don't feel so alone). BTW has anyone used Dial-Up recently?  I can't believe that I used to think it was OK. ;-)

What part of Auckland are you located to not have woosh

Don't trust there coverage tool

karmic: I'd suggest finding someone else that's got DSL and borrow their modem. It may be something as simple as a problem with your modem.

Hmmm, when I enquired (admittedly some time ago) with Vodafone I was told that it would cost around (if I remember rightly) $149 per month but $49 is heaps more reasonable.

I live on Auckland's North Shore, Woosh say that they do not have connections in my area but I know someone with one. My understanding is (and I could be wrong, its been known to happen in the past ;-)) that the more people using Woosh's bandwidth the slower it will be.  They tell people that they don't supply connections in their area because they haven't got enough bandwidth to support too many customers, as they add more bandwidth to their network they will be able to sign up more people. Please do not quote me on that one though as I have no real technical understanding of the way that their network operates, just my observations.

Thanks for your thoughts, I am currently on my 3rd brand new modem this week, have also had someone bring their modem over to test.

Xtra can see my modem at their end, they can even get informaition from it but can't seem to get any to me.
