I've found the upgrade (http://www.woosh.com/modemupgrade.aspx), but I need to install the modem first.

Just had a quick browse of the site ... found nothing (how shcoking with ISPs these days :P )
Did the modem and such not come with a CD?

yes, but I left it in the office, so I thought I would just download it from home (GRPS browsing not exactly the best). I rang them and they advised that you can only get the CD, which they offered to send.

You would think in this day and age that you would be prepared (like many others are) to simply post the drivers on your website, would you not?
Maybe thats something Woosh might consider doing

I expect it has something to do with the system that they own the hardware and want to verify users against hardware? Also, I assume they think that if you don't have woosh, then you don't have a connection, therefore, how would you be able to download drivers ;-)

But then practically all company websites these days are all "me-too" abominations of terrible design which might look good but just have no content aside "our products are so good", and here's HEAPS OF GLITZY COLOUR!! but screw who wants support. especially annoying as the phone says "visit our website on www.dumbcompany.cum"

web design, arg! No keyboard support, tab sequence up the wahzu, broswer specific deployments (cue soap box) ... but yes, flashy display outweighs content all too frequently.

Back to topic, this is stupid. The drivers only work with their modem and service, so there's no reason why the software shouldn't be available for download from their own site.

Another bad decision from Woosh, I guess.

yep its a stupid idea, they should post it on their website. they seem to want more customers but there not really putting in the effort. the IP Wireless website claims that the desktop modem can reach speeds of up to 3 megabit so why doesnt woosh spend a bit more money on their infrastructure and get closer to the possibilities.

I'm sure they would like to, but they have to get money coming in to look at infrastructure improvements. Inspite of that, one should always take a manufacturers claim with a grain of salt, i.e. my car is supposed to get 11L / 100 Km <insert Tui quote>.

yeah i always get flamed on the fact it says 'up to'. although they may not have the money they could even loan some and more people would want to become customers. but with loaning money, if they dont get the customers then they'll have some finacial issues

.what really pisses me off is that they charge crazy $100/$200 start up fee's. Some like me were lucky to get the deal of free start up

Indeed, to stimulate incumbent churn and drive up membership (as I think the new subscriber market is nearly exhausted) the entry barrier needs to be removed.

Its a joke, I wanted to move the woosh on USB from one computer to another.

I ended up copying over the ip wireless directory and exporting all the keys I could find relating to ip wireless from the registry and modifying the .reg file to stick them into the correct user on the computer it was going to. About an hour of screwing around because they wont put a simple download up on there site.

Perhaps they are embarrased that the download is gonna be more then the monthly cap on the lowest fraudband offerings or something?

Maybe you should join us at TUANZ to encourage other wireless operators to reduce the cost of their plans and maybe we could see competition in this space.
