Hi guys,

This morning I noticed one of our internet connections have dropped from 11000 sync to 4000.
The attenuation is the same, around 30dB down and 35dB up with a NR of 12dB.
Isolation test done, tested another modem, checked ADSL2+ profile, no joy.

Our other ADSL connection is steady at around 10000.

A cabinet a few houses down the road is due to go live middle of next month and there is a telecom guy working there now.

I have rung Snap and they have said it could cost $200 to get a technician out which is understandable.

Just wanting to know if this is normal to experience speed issues when getting migrated over to a new cabinet or should I call back Snap and get a techie called out?

Perfectly normal.

Your phone wiring will now (probably) be routed via the cabinet however your DSL and POTS services are still generated at the exchange.

Once the new ISAM is fired up you'll see your sync rate increase dramatically, typically speaking it's around 2-3 weeks from the first lines being cut over on a cabinet to to the handover date when it's fully functional.

Thanks for that.

I have 2 ADSL connections,
One with orcon, syncing at 10000, and one with snap which is currently 4000.

Whats now weird is that within the last 4 hours my Orcon connection has gone up to 19000 indicating the cabinet is now live maybe?
So hopefully I should expect my other ADSL connection to migrate across within days rather than weeks wouldn't you think?

Also quick question, what size data pipe supplies these roadside cabinets? 10Gb Fibre? And I take it they serve up to 200 or so households?

Hi, each ISAM frame which can carry 4 cards each 48ports so 196 ports in total has a GigE uplink. So that means an uncontended rate of roughly 5Mb/s or assuming a contention ratio of say 4:1 then thats 20Mb/s which is as good a ASDL2+ could go anyway.

Further if my memory serves me right, each ISAM host frame has 7 GigE uplinks and can server upto 10 ISAM downstream frames, so imagine a tree fed with 7 GigEs at the top potentially spanning out to 10 frames all up.

This of course assumes that Telecom have scaled the network such that each frame has essentially a GigE of its own back to the network core, it could be that 10 frames are all sitting on one GigE, who knows :)

There is plenty of backhaul capacity from the cabinets. Since their design spec was to form the basis of a future FTTH network extra fibre has been deployed to the cabinets.
