I connected up to Woosh on 3 August.  It was all fine.  Download speeds between 1 Mbps and 1.7 Mbps.  About a week ago, download speed crashed suddenly and stayed like that..  It ranges between 80 kbps and 250 kbs.  Strangely, my upload speed is fine, so that  measured upload speed is almost always now faster than my download speed.  e.g last night I measured download speed at 120 kbps and upload at 210 kbps.  I can also tell that upload is consistently faster than download when running Utorrent. Spoke to helpdesk at Woosh.  They are sending a new modem, but I have my doubts as to whether that is the cause (it would be pleasing if life was that simple). I am running windows XP.  Connected using the Ethernet cable via a US Robotics router (but I also connected directly to the modem to make sure this was not a router problem – it is not – the speed issue is exactly the same if I bypass the router and connect the modem directly to the PC using the Ethernet cable). Woosh signal strength seems fine – tells me the delta is 15 (whatever that means - but it seems to be OK). Any ideas about where to look for a solution ? I tried a clean install of the modem, virus check, the usual suspects.  The two things that puzzle me: First – the way it was working great and changed suddenly and (apparently) permanently.  Second the fact that the upload speed appears to be (more than) fine. Any ideas appreciated.

Hey Steve, i'm having the exact same issue. Speed suddenly dropped and stayed there about 2-3 weeks ago. I am on Abel Smith Street (Aro end of Te Aro) where are you?

Have already got a new Modem and that didnt help. Delta 15 means you are getting an excellent signal, I too am getting a Delta 15 Signal.

I have raised this with Woosh who are baffled and have escalted the issue (apparently). However, have not heard anything. Will post here again if I find out more. Keen to know where you are tho!

Just spoke to a really helpful guy at Woosh. Apparently this is a known issue with the Cell transmitter on Cnr Abel Smith St & Claytons Ave. Has been given a Priority 1 so hopefully will be fixed within the next few days.

I am in Petone about 500m from base station. I got the new modem - as I thought - it made absolutely no differnce to the problem.

I'd call woosh and raise it with them. Took me 4 phone calls for them to acknowledge there was a problem in my case.

Hi Steve and adamj,

I'm just back from 2 weeks in Australia and also noticed the drop in performance ... 165kbps down and 181kbps up this evening.

I've just sent Woosh an email asking for explanation ... will let you guys know what ensues.

Cheers,

Ricky (Thorndon, Wellington, Base Station 12).

Just had response from Woosh, and I quote ....

"There has been an issue with our 3rd party backhaul between Wellington and Auckland.  A first issue was believed resolved yesterday but ongoing performance issues have led to further investigations and we will have this resolved as soon as we are able."

Of course, everyone knows what a "3rd party backhaul" is.  Wpuld be nice if they put a small note on their web site, eh?

I only use my Woosh connection for email and web browsing, so I hadn't noticed any significant slowdown, but I have been starting to get the feeling that the performance isn't quite what it should be. Out of curiosity, I have just tried the speed test on www.nzdsl.co.nz and, sure enough, I'm getting 170kbps down and 306kbps up.

Not impressed!

Have just made a followup call to Woosh to see how this issue is progressing. They have fixed the cell tower on Abel Smith Street and had also fixed the TCL backhaul to Auckland however it appears that the problem with the backhaul has resurfaced and they cannot give me any idea when it will be fixed because apparently Telstra Clear can't tell them.

I'm getting approx 160 Kb Down and 260Kb Up, on a Delta 15 signal

I've just run the test again and I'm getting 226kbps, so definitely no improvement here. It's a pity that Woosh customers are now having to endure TelstraClear's usual appalling service.

My latest - 173 kbps down and 233 kbps up. I wish they would just tell us straight up what the situation is without all the code words. If it is going to be broken for a month just tell us so we can consider our options. I'd give them points for honesty even if they said "sorry we can't fix it. Stop complaining." The other thing that is missing is proactivity. e.g why don't they put the status of this problem on their website ? Or send daily email updates to all affected customers with the latest situation ? I hope they read this forum :-) Honestly if I had any practical alternative broadband supplier just now I would be gone. Which is a shame - I like the idea of woosh. But (so far) I am very unhappy with what is delivered. All the cool slogans like "live boundlessly" count for nothing if they don't deliver something at least close to what they advertise. Sorry - 200 kbps just does not cut it. I cannot download the data I need in a timely way. I can't work properly. I might as well be in Tuvalu.

Let's hope it stays that way Laughing
