Agreed - quite cool looking. And it confirmed something for me also.

On TCL's 4Mbs/2Mbs plan using the NZ speed test I get about 2288/1189kbs (this is in peak time so understandably not as fast as it could be). But when I use this new test, I can't get over about 270kbs upload to any test site (tried LA, London and Sydney). Even with the peak times now and international sites, with a supposed 2Mbs upload speed, I ought to be able to do better than 270kbs or about  1/8 of what I should be getting.

Just as another data point I tried dslreports. Got the following:

http://www.dslreports.com/stest?loc=1

1250 / 1010
Your download speed : 1250 kbps or 156.3 KB/sec.

Your upload speed : 1010 kbps or 126.2 KB/sec.

Just wonder what others on TCL plans are getting for upload speeds? What is the relationship between speed tests and real world?  As I noted in another post, I have never been able to upload data faster than about 30KB/sec which is unacceptable really given we are supposed to have a 2Mbs upload speed.

That sounds pretty much like 256kbps bang on less ethernet, ip and tcp overhead.

nice site

interesting, i can't test my download speed.  I don't think the file size is big enough to work properly.

Intersting seeing different parts of the world:

8/17/2006    5:52 AM GMT    0 kb/s    273 kb/s    84 ms    Auckland    ~ 300 mi
8/17/2006    6:04 AM GMT    0 kb/s    319 kb/s    146 ms    Sydney    ~ 1350 mi
8/17/2006    5:54 AM GMT    0 kb/s    280 kb/s    154 ms    Adelaide    ~ 1950 mi
8/17/2006    5:53 AM GMT    0 kb/s    228 kb/s    236 ms    Los Angeles, CA    ~ 6750 mi
8/17/2006    6:05 AM GMT    0 kb/s    168 kb/s    325 ms    New York, NY    ~ 9000 mi
8/17/2006    6:06 AM GMT    0 kb/s    148 kb/s    361 ms    London    ~ 11650 mi
8/17/2006    5:53 AM GMT    0 kb/s    117 kb/s    376 ms    Amsterdam    ~ 11500 mi

mostly expected results really.

I'm on 3.5MB/512k plan in Palmerston North

It is important not to completely trust these web-based speed tests.
As you are not in control of at least one end of the test, it can not be a real benchmark.

But on a 2Mbs upstream plan?  If there were ethernet overheads etc. then that would show up on downloads also but the download speeds are what are expected

Yeah I'm saying it almost looks like your shaped to 256kbps upstream.

If that is the case then I'm on the phone to TCL right now!

yes, very true.  More than anything, it gives one a good indication of which mirrors to avoid if you want to utilise the speed.

you might be surprised at the amount of unsolicited traffic the average Windows XP computer can generate. but I'm sure you know what I mean :-P

Looks really nice, but the international results are completely inaccurate (to be kind) much like the old Speakeasy.

I get much the same results as you on my 10MB/2MB cable. I can download at 900KB/s+  on FTP Torrent or HTTP internationally depending on the source any time of the day.  I would have to say there is no way at all this is even remotely accurate. Auckland is like most of the sites and fails to show much over 4MB which I also am certain is also wrong (although probably accurate for connections under 4MB ish).
