Anyone here tried Hosting Direct ?

I want to put one of my customers on VDSL2 but Telecom don't have any plans yet.

Telecom have been a rock solid connection....so don't want to go to something flakey.

Hosting Direct haven't had the best history in terms of reliability (especially with DSL). May be better now though.

Have a look At Unleash, Snap, Vibe or Xtreme Networks. We use Unleash and they are very reliable. Also extremely flexible with plans e.g. we have more national than international which is MUCH cheaper than flat rate national/international and we can share the same traffic pool over multiple connections.

Telecom are rock solid. So its up to you if you are willing to risk a switch.

Unleash provide good VDSL2, so try them.

Stay away from Hosting Direct imo.

Hosting Direct are actually amazing in terms of speed and reliability now. Up until recently I was a customer of theirs on standard xDSL and it was rock solid day and night.

Assuming wiring on your end is fine you will have no problems.

I really love the lack of filtering or caching they do to the connection. Pure internet.

Seems they may have improved things of late, be a risk though.
The lack of caching or filtering does appeal.

TBH I see the lack of caching as a major downside? Getting data from national cache = faster.

I saw that Hosting Direct ad for VDSL2 as well.
Price and specs looked very appealing.....

Try finding any information about VDSL on the Telecom website - doesnt seem to exist!

Anyone know of any good VDSL2 suppliers in central wellington?
Or anyone actually currently using Hosting Direct?

Hosting Direct's website seems to have some conflicting information. On their main 'Internet' page they refer to VDSL2 as having "speeds of 50Mbps down and 10Mbps up", and on their VDSL2 pages they state "FS/FS – No rate limiting/filtering or caching", but also state "30Mbps (Down)/10Mbps(Up) FS/FS"?

Maybe just a typo...

Can anyone confirm what the real story is?

Not really, Telecom are a massive business and I'm sure its a difficult process to rollout new products. They may even think its not a service their customers would be interested in.

It's up to 50mbps down and 10mbps up. Apparently there have been cases where Chrosu have allowed the 17a profile which gives 100mbps/100mbps I believe but this is very dependant on the quality and length of your line. Our connections are around 30mbps down/10mbps up.

17a is actually only 100/50, 30a offers 100/100

I believe 17a is only available on cabinets or exchanges that have DLM monitoring.

I think Telecom customers would be very interested, especially the business ones.

I suspect many projects were on hold with so much work going into the de-merger of Chorus.

The time frame of how quickly they decided on the asset allocation and have implemented it was really really fast imo.

Yes, I can appreciate that Telecom have been very busy with the separation.
The guy I talked to at Geni said they will have plans about quarter next year.
