Greetings zoners. Please forgive my first post being to this forum, and not 'Introductions'. I'm wondering whether it's possible for Slingshot's DSL b/band service to coexist with Telstra's cable service. [I recently joined S/shot but am now to move to a (Chch) house supplied by Telstra]. I don't see (ignorance is bliss!) why I can't cancel the Telstra landline, retain the cable service, and simply transfer my S/shot landline/DSL service to the new address(?)

Something tells me I'm missing something...

Hi there is no reason at all, simply you will not be using the HFC cable, but I am assuming there is a telecom phone line as well as the TCL phone line (talking POTs here not cable) to the property.

You can only have Telstra as an ISP if you wish to stay with the HFC service

I don't fully understand your question.

You can have TCL cable and a DSL connection to the same property but then you'd have two internet connections.

So you want:
  • Slingshot landline
  • Slingshot Broadband (DSL) and
  • TelstraClear Cable TV
correct?

If the current house has TCL landline and cable, then the current landline is TCL wire to a TCL cabinet. And you can't get Slingshot on that. So, you will have to get Slingshot to reinstate the old Telecom landline to the property (connect a cable from the nearest TCNZ cabinet to your property). I suspect there will be an installation fee for that.

Slingshot don't have a wholesale agreement with TCL to resell cable broadband, or to use TCL's infrastructure for landline.

You have to find out if your new place has a Telecom (now Chorus) phone line available as well as the TelstraClear HFC cable. ADSL is only compatible with the physical phone line, not the Cable TV line.
