Yet another "unlimited" plan that "manage" people using more than 700MB on a day. Yay for people doing legal ISO downloads for testing, etc...

First Xtra, now this one. All bad. Really.

At least this one only says it's put into a pool of ips.  That can often not be to bad and also seems fair enough.

Cheers Don

Taken from the Xtra Fair Use poilcy:
"That means we will transfer you into the Fair Use Pool where you will share a fixed amount of bandwidth with other users in this pool. You will remain in the Fair Use Pool for 1 week."

Xtra are doing the same, so isn't MAXNet just reselling the xtra plans in a new wrapper?

Yes, its maxnet selling a telecom wholesale plan rather then building a plan out of UBS.

Something any ISP can do if they choose to, which is why them all crying about UBS being more expensive then xtras retail price is just a big red herring to try to get more regulation.

Nah, it's not so easy. If Maxnet was to use CUBS to create an unlimited, sorry, managed plan, it would be subject to backhaul charges plus aggregate network overage of 50 cents per gigabyte on traffic over 4GB/month. On WBS (Telecom's Wholesale Broadband Service) which gives providers retail-equivalent plans that are essentially the same as Xtra's, they don't have to pay that.

WBS comes with a "trade discount" of 18%, but it's not true wholesale in the generally accepted meaning of the word.
