I read with delight the article today about the prices released for Auckland and Christchurch.

I am on Dacre St, Newton, Auckland and trying to determine what timeframe the Auckland CBD will be getting delivery of these services? I am struggling to even find Dacre St on the Broadband Map and can't understand how VDSL2 isn't available already in my area!

Anyone able to shed some light please?

Article is here: http://www.techjungle.com/7964

I am wondering if these prices relate to the rest of NZ.

I am in a stage one UFB roll out in Dunedin but not sure if these prices will apply.

In our frontpage, to Paul Spain's TechJungle blog. I'm sure people glance over the homepage at least once a day to see if there's anything there?

Quite sad how expensive their 100Mb plans are. Im not sure I would even bother getting fibre for 30mb. People in these area's would have access to VDSL i assume? Might as well just get that and not pay for an expensive fibre install. I guess all the other providers need to put out prices though so time will tell!

chev: I am blown away you said that. They aren't expensive!!! I was just quoted $650 + GST a month for 20Mbit, with 100GB of data

Cheaper than TelstraClear cable.

Here, but to tell the truth I thought it was "100 MB" (as in cap). Sorry...

The way I see it is the goverment want everyone in NZ to have 'Ultra fast broadband', I just dont think 30Mb cuts the mustard. But I do like the price ubergroup have on there 50/50 150gb plan. That is the sort of pricing I would have expected. Maybe I just have unrealistic ideas on what we should be paying.

I think everyone should remember what it was like when ADSL 1 first came out for consumers, JetStart and the like. The UFB is a game changer and it's going to take some time for ISP's and transit providers to find their feet again. Atleast Worldnet has come out with pricing - Orcon's releasing videos about how great it is but is mum on pricing.

When we first offered UFB plans it was over 12 months ago and was based around the 30/10 product as that was the most economical at the time, Now we're doing 50mbit and I have no doubt in the next 12 months 100mbit will become viable.

Also just a note - Unless your in a multi-tenant building or really far away from the PON circuit the installs are normally free

Most problems are the result of previous solutions...

The thing is that the fibre being installed is capable of 100mbit+
The 30mbit plan is quite capable of delivering two HD television streams (should someone be able to compete against sky using fibre delivery) + internet and telephone all at the same time.

The 30mbit plan is just there because time is needed to upgrade the backhaul fibre links and so that ISP's are able to offer a cheaper service by not having to pay for excess capacity around the city / district / country where their customers dont want it.

I just discovered I'll have a UFB Access point by July (not in Auckland).

But, telecom is not listed as an ISP.  I'd like to stay with telecom if possible, maybe they'll signup in future?

I am just struggling how Auckland CBD won't get UFB until perhaps sometime next year. How can that seriously be? It's the financial capital of New Zealand?
